Old Forester Statesman Review
Proof: 95 (47.5%)
Age: NAS
Price: $58 in Ohio
Nose: On the nose, you can expect to get cherry and vanilla, a little darkness of chocolate, and a subtle nuttiness.
Mouth: For me the oak was a little forward, but after tasting more, I could pick up more of the cherry and caramel notes. I also got a bit of a creaminess.
Finish. This bourbon has a finish with a lot of pepper but also a bit of nuttiness. It does not have a long-lasting staying power.
If there is one thing that I have to say about this bottle, it would be that based on a lot of reviews I’ve seen and friends I’ve talked too, this is a mixed bottle. For many, since this bottle was a tie in for the film Kingsman: The Golden Circle it brought a lot of wariness. For one, the bottle does not look like the other bottles in the Old Forester Whiskey Row Line, and in fact looks quite special, essentially making it look like a limited edition which is sure to draw the eye.
The overall enjoyment I found and heard also varies a bit, but I will say that personally to me that this bottle is one of my favorites. I first had my taste of this bottle in an Old-Fashioned from my brother, but since then have gotten my own bottle and has become one of my favorite picks.
Compared to other bottles, I would say that this is a step above most of the regular bourbons you would see. I personally would get it again if I was to run out and needed a pretty decent bottle.
As for cooking, this is not one that I would use for cooking, but I can see it being used in the occasional cocktail. My go to will always be the Old-Fashioned for bourbon and I have used this bottle multiple times for that and it still remains one of my favorite drinks.
